Practical, ambitious and written in plain English
thinkstep-anz is developing a suite of step-by-step guides in collaboration with the New Zealand Sustainable Business Council (SBC) to support sustainability professionals to deliver their companies’ programmes.
While the guides have been written for New Zealand businesses and feature some local content, Australian businesses will find most of the information useful too.
First two guides now available
The two guides are the first in a suite of resources that will be part of the SBC’s ‘ESG toolbox’. They cover:

The business case for sustainability: |
‘Communicating is a huge part of making progress with sustainability’, says thinkstep-anz CEO Barbara Nebel. ‘Every sustainability manager has to influence decision-makers and work with people like procurement, HR and reporting managers to make change happen. These practical, plain English guides make it easier for them to do this.’
Our communications team is enjoying writing these guides for SBC, using technical content contributed by our subject matter experts. A partnership with the Kaitiaki Collective is ensuring that the resources are relevant to Aotearoa New Zealand businesses. For example, they take account of Aotearoa’s unique cultural context and Māori perspectives.
Practical, ambitious, plain English
The guides:
- are suitable for all industries and organisations, big and small
- are practical, with step-by-step activities and tips
- are ambitious. They feature current best practice and look ahead to likely future activities and changes too.
- include (where relevant) a ‘roadmap’ of activities: how to get started, make progress and lead the way
- feature plain English writing (simple, concise, personal language).
Guides on many other social and environmental topics will follow.
thinkstep-anz has been a member of SBC for over 10 years and are thrilled to partner with the SBC team on this important work.
