Ian Appleton

Ian is an environmental scientist and a member of thinkstep-anz’s LCA team. He fulfils his passion for sustainability by investigating the life cycle impacts of clients’ products and services.

Ian has worked previously as an operations manager at Carter Holt Harvey Forests, gaining first-hand experience in one of New Zealand’s leading primary production industries and its associated supply chains and stakeholder groups.

Forestry has also provided him with unique insights into environmental and resource management issues and processes. He has researched carbon accounting and sequestration, as well as land management issues such as soil erosion and reforestation. Ian’s formal education in sustainability culminated in his Graduate Diploma in Science from Massey University. He also holds an MA in History, and a New Zealand Certificate of Forestry.

Outside of work, Ian can be found outdoors hiking – currently section hiking Te Araroa – biking, or participating in community environmental projects
