We're honoured to be named a finalist for Excellence in Sustainability and Environmental Practices at the 2degrees Wellington Regional Business Excellence Awards 2025.
While our work spans across Australia and New Zealand, this award is especially meaningful because the Wellington region is home to Barbara and Matthias, and a big part of our New Zealand team. Being recognised among so many inspiring, innovative organisations in our own community really means a lot.
At thinkstep-anz, we’re all about making sustainability work for business. That’s why we take our commitments seriously - we believe that if we’re going to help our clients succeed, we have to walk the talk ourselves.

Empowering industries to measure, reduce and transform
We translate complex sustainability science into practical tools and clear language, so the technical know-how is actually used to create real change.
We design solutions that ripple across sectors. Our work ranges from decarbonisation strategies for concrete and wine, to a practical roadmap for 2,500 hospitality businesses, to current collaboration with the steel sector. As the leading producer of EPDs and LCAs, we equip businesses with tools to measure and reduce their impact. We support organisations with climate-related disclosures, helping them build resilience and ambitious transition plans in a changing climate. We also educate on circular economy strategies, sharing knowledge widely and raising standards across industries
To lower the barrier to entry for smaller businesses, we make much of our core data available for free. We provide open-access emission factor databases (add link) and tools like our Material Circularity Indicator calculator (link). This means any business can start measuring their impact without a massive initial investment. Plus, we make sure the language is clear: our Need to Know (link) series translates complex jargon into plain English with a business focus. We’re also sharing our expertise through our free webinar (link)library which has grown into one of Australasia’s largest, with more than 100 sessions across a wide range of topics.
Keeping ourselves accountable
A commitment is only as good as the action behind it: we constantly raise the bar on our own performance because we believe in total transparency.
Since 2019, we’ve held an ambitious science-based target approved by the SBTi. This means we’ve committed to significant cuts in our scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions from travel and commuting by 2030. We then ensure any remaining operational footprint is offset using high-quality New Zealand carbon credits.
Finally, we’re actively investing in the next generation of solutions. We commit 5% of our revenue - not just profit - to start-ups creating sustainable technologies. Since most of a product’s impact is locked in during design, supporting this early innovation is a practical way for us to drive massive systemic change.
