Committing to our only future

thinkstep-anz is proud to be the first company in New Zealand to commit to the Business Ambition for 1.5° campaign. thinkstep-anz was among the latest batch of companies to commit to the campaign. The news was announced today as part of the official launch of the Race to Zero campaign by UNFCCC Climate Champions. The campaign is organised by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), in partnership with the UN Global Compact and the We Mean Business coalition.

As a signatory to the We Mean Business for 1.5° movement, thinkstep-anz is serious about limiting global warming to 1.5°C to minimise the worst effects of climate change.

“It is becomingly increasingly urgent to commit to climate action without compromises for economic recovery. Businesses and governments need to work together to ensure that climate recovery goes hand in hand with economic recovery for a resilient, zero-carbon future,” says Barbara Nebel, CEO of thinkstep-anz.

thinkstep-anz has set science-based emissions reduction targets across scopes 1 and 2 that are consistent with keeping global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. thinkstep-anz has also committed to a long-term target to reach net-zero emissions by no later than 2050.

Business Ambition for 1.5°C companies were profiled during the launch broadcast on 5 June which—fittingly enough—was also World Environment Day. The companies will also be featured in the run up to COP26 in Nov 2021 as leading the way with the most ambitious corporate climate targets.

thinkstep-anz now extends the call out to other companies to commit to Business Ambition for 1.5C.
