Barbara Nebel to present at LCM 2025 on embodied carbon progress in Australasia

thinkstep-anz CEO Barbara Nebel has been invited to present at 12th International Conference on Life Cycle Management (LCM 2025), one of the world’s leading forums for environmental, economic and social sustainability. The conference will take place in Palermo, Italy, from 9–12 September 2025.

Barbara will highlight the progress New Zealand and Australia have made on embodied carbon – the carbon tied up in materials and construction – and share thinkstep-anz’s role in driving this change.

She is excited to reconnect with colleagues and hear the latest on:

  • Decarbonisation pathways: using life cycle management (LCM) to identify hotspots across value chains and prioritise actions to reduce carbon.

  • Circular economy in practice:  applying life cycle thinking to design out waste and extend the use of resources.

  • Digital tools and AI for sustainability:  harnessing data-driven LCM approaches to enable digital product passports and AI-powered solutions.

  • Collaboration across value chains: building a common language for partners and suppliers through shared LCM metrics.

  • Policy and global frameworks: applying science-based LCM methods to support credible reporting and regulatory compliance.

Barbara says, “It is inspiring to see the shift from theory to implementation at scale, and LCM is right at the heart of this transition. I am looking forward to connecting with peers, sharing ideas, and learning from global best practice, and then bringing these insights back to Australia and New Zealand.”

Under the theme Global to Local, LCM 2025 will focus on practical solutions for embedding life cycle approaches into decision-making. The conference brings together practitioners and researchers from around the world to showcase methods, tools and best practices that accelerate the sustainable transition.

Barbara’s contribution will showcase how Australasia is stepping up to the challenge of reducing embodied carbon and how thinkstep-anz is supporting business and government to turn commitments into measurable impact.
