The challenge
Mint Innovation needed validated data to talk about their solution's environmental credentials confidently with investors and clients. Their process recovers multiple metals and uses a variety of different chemicals and utilities, making an LCA study more difficult to conduct without a dedicated external team.
About Mint Innovation
Mint Innovation Ltd is an NZ-based cleantech company that recovers precious and critical metals from a range of waste materials using a low-carbon, low-cost, and city-scale hydrometallurgical solution.
What we did:
Our LCA team reviewed an existing LCA that Mint had commissioned earlier. We then produced and updated an LCA covering both of Mint’s primary products at the time – gold and copper.
How we are helping Mint Innovation to succeed sustainably:
→ Mint gained a stronger understanding of what areas in their process required attention from an environmental point of view
→ With clear data on what areas lower the total carbon and which ones don’t, Mint was able to streamline R&D projects and positive areas of the process were used as a template for future R&D.
→ High-value partnerships and investor relationships require LCA data to confirm Mint’s low-carbon proposition - our work provides that confidence.
